The DGV qualification provides LGV drivers with a qualification demonstrating they have the skills and knowledge in order to carry out the role of a LGV driver to a professional standard.

About these qualifications

This qualifications covers all the essential skills and knowledge you need for a successful career as a courier or delivery driver, and all modes of transport from cycles and motorbikes to cars, vans and lorries.

The qualification is available as a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

Anyone working, or looking for work, as a courier or delivery driver.

Level 2 Qualification

About this level

Level 2 will suit you if you are working as a courier or delivery driver or have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

There are four qualifications available at Level 2:

  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Motor Cycle/Pedal Cycle) 4012-20 
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Van) 4012-21 
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Rigid Vehicle) 4012-22 
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Articulated or Draw Bar Vehicle) 4012-23.

Each comprises mandatory units appropriate to the relevant mode of transport.

Level 3 Qualification

About this level

Level 3 Driving Goods Vehicles qualifications are for those looking to progress further in their professional driving careers into supervision, team-leading and management.

There are three qualifications available at Level 3:

  • Diploma in Driving Goods Vehicles (Van) 4012-32
  • Diploma in Driving Goods Vehicles (Rigid Vehicle) 4012-31
  • Diploma in Driving Goods Vehicles (Articulated or Draw Bar Vehicle) 4012-30

Each comprises mandatory units appropriate to the relevant mode of transport.
